Vol 6

The theme is ‘a myriad of perspectives’ and the focus will be on authoring and reading in XR, with wider text themes also included.

As always the book will be published in conjunction with the annual Future of Text Symposium. If you would like to contribute an article, please get in touch with the editors: Dene Grigar & Frode Hegland.

Requests for Contributions

If you are considering submitting an article, or if you have been invited to do so, please have a look at these notes on producing a connected, richly interactive ‘Book’

Our aim is to provide you with a connected, richly interactive authoring environment so that you can produce a connected, richly interactive ‘document of your thoughts, as part of the bound collection of work in The Future of Text 6. With this as our goal, we ask the following of you to provide the data to make your article come alive, whether for your own authoring in XR or separately, so that we may build the XR experience on your behalf:

  • Provide an abstract or summary of about a quarter page, which refers to all the parts of your article, which can then be linked and the structure can be experimented with in XR. You can think of this as a virtual jumping off point, or menu, for reading your full piece. If you would like to write a short piece, then this is all you need–you don’t have to write more.
  • Provide References in a format which we can convert into BibTeX, or provide them in BibTex. You may include extra information here, such as link types, also to help us experiment.
  • Please cite an article from a previous volume of The Future of Text, for experimenting with views in XR. Citing is of course core to the academic authoring experience so this is core in our experimenting with reading and writing in XR–your citation could help us build useful interactions for this.
  • If you have any images you would like to include, including graphs and charts, please provide them in good resolution so that they may be viewed large in XR. 3D objects of course also welcomed.
  • Contributions will need to be in Apple ‘Pages’, Microsoft ‘Word’ or Augmented Text ‘Author’ format for rich text, or in plain text text. Supplemental data in JSON will also be looked at, both for the XR experience of the book and for inclusion in the traditional book.
